Picture Completion

One of the tests within the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children was the Picture Competion challenge.

For this test, the child was told, “I am going to show you some pictures in which there is a part missing. I want you to look at each picture carefully and tell me what is missing. Now, look at this picture. Present Card 1. What important part is missing?” (Wechsler 1949, p .72).

The child was then given “a maximum exposure of 15 seconds is allowed for each picture” (Wechsler, 1949, p. 72).

If/when the child failed to notice what part was missing, then the test administer was permitted to point it out.

The test administer was instructed to discontinue the test after 4 consecutive failures.

For scoring, the child/Subject would receive 1 point for each correct response (Wechsler, 1949, p. 72).

The child's points were totaled and helped to determine his/her IQ score.
