Subject | Racism, Civil Rights Movement, De New Sheriff |
Description | THIS ITEM CONTAINS HARMFUL LANGUAGE. "Move Them [n*] North" is a song off of the album De New Sheriff. Produced by Conservative Records, this particular musical group on the label recorded many other pro-segregation songs such as "We Don't Want [N*]" and "Segregation". At a first look, the viewer can immediately see why this record is considered to be backlash to the Civil Rights Movement. The song, as it suggests in the title-is blatant backlash. Singing about moving the African American race "back North" away from the white population, along with outright use of discriminatory language towards African Americans was not uncommon to see from those who felt threatened by African Americans during this movement. The description of the album inside the cover of the record suggests the listener sing along and laugh at the antics of the "Coon Hunters". It is also suggested that the sellers of the record promote and display this record so everyone in the area could further discriminate African Americans as they make progress through their movement. |
