Emma Butman's Letter to her cousin from San Francisco

Emma Butman, a native of Waterville, Minnesota, wrote this lengthy letter to her cousin from San Francisco when she visited the city with her mother. Then a 23-year-old single woman, Emma was chaperoned  by her mother during her travel. Nevertheless, Emma was exhilarated in seeing the sunny, urban, and more culturally diverse scenes of San Francisco. She expressed that she hoped to visit "the Chinese quarter" but did not have time to make it likely because her mother was sick.
