Volume III, No. 18

Rochester NY, May 5, 1917

Description of the issue:

This 24-page weekly was published in Rochester, NY by the Rochester German Publishing Company.

The weekly is divided into editorials, several from Norddeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (a conservative German newspaper  published in Berlin), reports without explicitly named authors, a serial novel by Rudolf Stratz, several short stories and poems, advertisements, and numerous photographs. While most of the articles and the short literary pieces reflect a fierce pride in German culture and technology, a few of the photographs emphasize American patriotism. The front-piece shows Cornell students on the way to a military training camp near Ithaca, for instance. The final photographs show Columbia, Princeton and Harvard students receiving military training.
