Description
On June 11, 1963, President John F. Kennedy deployed federal marshals and the Alabama National Guard when Governor George Wallace tried to prevent two black students, Vivian Malone and James Hood, from enrolling at the University of Alabama. That night, President Kennedy addressed the nation about the scourge of discrimination and proposed legislation that would become the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This video is an excerpt of his speech.
