FREN 4880/5550 (Spring 2019): La Méditerranée francophone

This exhibit on the "Francophone Mediterranean" will introduce you to several facets of the French-speaking, Western part of the Mediterranean world, connecting France and the Maghreb, in particular, Algeria.

The first "wing" of this virtual museum represents Mediterranean and southern French cities with their rich, mixed cultural heritages. This "wing" of our virtual museum provides glimpses into architecture, the politics of language, and gastronomy of the South.

The second "wing" of this museum explores different controversies associated with the grande Bleue and which links a whole range of cultures. Our virtual curators have selected three polemical issues: the theme of water both as symbol and as quite real, endangered resource; the heritage of Algeria's war of Independence filtered through the testimonials of women writers and film directors. The third team has chosen to represent the current crisis of migration, especially as this issue has been confronted within the space of the Mediterranean.

This exhibit is in French...nous vous invitons à entrer dans ce monde complexe et beau!
