Description | The construction of South Hall was planned as part of Bowling Green State University's long-range building program started in 1955, which included Rodgers Quadrangle, Alice Prout Residence Hall, and the Hall of Music. The building was financed with state bond-issue funds and was intended to house three of the University's departments; Psychology, Sociology, and Speech. The building was named South Hall due to its geographical location and the ease with which the name could be remembered. Most recently, the Department of Theater and Film called the building home prior to their move to the recently completed Wolfe Center for the Arts. Many departments have also utilized the classrooms and offices within South Hall. The building was closed at the end of the fall 2013 semester in order to prepare it for a massive renovation project. Only the exterior of South Hall will remain while the interior will be completely gutted and rebuilt. Once completed in early 2015, the new South Hall will house the School of Media and Communication and related departments. Listed below are additional highlights in the history of the building:
