Description | By the early 1960s, the University was expanding significantly in several directions. The number of students and faculty was growing increasingly, the number of academic departments and their reputations were expanding, and the number of buildings were multiplying. Despite this, the original library designed to serve merely 800 people remained. Accordingly, the Board of Trustees approved plans to build a new, and much larger, library to meet the growing population and academic needs of the community. Comprised of eight floors, the Jerome Library is home to the University Libraries system. The main library and the Learning Commons tutoring space are located on the first floor, with the rest of the building occupied by Special Collections departments and study space. Each Special Collection is housed on its own floor. These libraries and archives include the Curriculum Resource Center (2nd), Music and Sound Recordings Library and Archives (3rd), Browne Popular Culture Library (4th), the Center for Archival Collections (5th), and the Historical Collections of the Great Lakes (6th).
