Nov 10, 1936 Cleveland O. Dearest Husband: Is my sweetheart O.K. and taking good care of himself? I’m doing fine and am going home, Thursday Nov. 12. Isn’t that grand? They have put me on my feet and walk me up and down the hall, but am pretty weak and my legs feel like rubber. Have lost a lot of weight and blood, and look pretty pale, but will be in pretty good condition by the time you get home. I have seen my incision, and am cut from about a inch from the belly-button all the way down. About a week after I get home, I will have to go to the doctor’s office and he will give me a full report on all he did. I’ll write and tell you everything. Your father sent me a dozen of American beauty roses, Sunday. He came later in the day, but didn’t stay long. His nose was all swollen up as it is rather large anyhow, it sure was big. Your father has false teeth, did you notice? There is no more sales tax on food stuff anymore after today. But there is on dog food. Darling were you very disappointed that you didn’t get it when you came home. I feel awfully bad about it. It gives me a thrill everytime I think how hard it was, and can hardly wait till I get it – from you honey. I bet you think I’m rotten, but honey I love you so, and can’t help it and get all hot and bothered over you? Even just laying here, thinking how nice your hands felt on my flesh that day, give me the quivers all over and honey, please be sure and keep it just for me won’t you. Honey, believe me, Wirt tried to get fresh and we even fought, and it actually made me so sick I would almost vomit. But honey, when I think of your strong body, it is just one big thrill, and I’m yours for what you want to do with. But, I’m not just sexy cause there is more than that to our marriage, I would do anything to make you happy and you know it. But what I really mean is, I love you, love you and then some. I see in the Marine News it is 9 above at Duluth. You’ll be pretty used to the cold weather when you get home. Well darling I have to close now, am pretty well all in and besides don’t know any news anyhow and this is an awful poor better. They are coming to give me a bath and walk me again and then sit me in a chair for supper. So now, my Love, take good care of yourself and think lots of me and write. I never was so happy as I’m now, when I remember, when you came to the hospital and told me you care so much. I love you my sweetest darling Your wife Ethel | |
