Oct 28, 1936 Cleveland O. Dearest Husband: Darling this will be your last letter from me for at least two weeks. In a few more hours I’ll be in the hospital. I’m a little nervous, but not scared. Darling if you should come home and find nobody – and if you have forgotten the name of the hospital, go in our room and there will be a note in front of the electric clock. (Lutheran Hospital on Franklin Ave. right around the corner from W. 25th). I took a few of your things, which I needed. That glass hickey to key your toothbrush in and your show horn. And honey, dad’s razor broke and I gave him that old Gilette you had in the drawer. Is it O.K. for him to use it? Mrs. Schmidt just called up and is coming right over to see me. According to the papers, they are going to try and run the boats way into December. But sweetie, if you want to quit and come home, it will be O.K. But I really don't look sick only my eyes, you can tell I’m in pain. But please, don’t worry and instead of sending you a telegram, dad will drop you a card. And please take good care of yourself and write to me a little oftener, cause that is all I will be doing – waiting to hear from you. And honey I love you so that I don’t want to be a burden to you. Honey, I know this letter is terrible, but can’t keep my mind on it. And so honey I tell you again, I will appreciate it very much if you can send me a little money for the doctor. He Is a very good on and everyone at the hospital thinks him a god. He is no young snip like Dr. Paul. So sweetie cross your fingers the morning of Oct 29th, everything is going to be alright. Well sweetie I’m sending you all my love and kisses to you, From your loving wife Ethel | |
