(Charlie to Lester) Cleveland, Ohio/Oct, 5, 1936 Dear Lester -- Hope you will excuse me for not writing sooner, but I can never remember the name of your boat, in fact, I just now called up Ethel to find out. I could remember Hord, but not the Emory L. Several times I was on the point of writing to you but was stalled because I had always forgot the “Emory L’, If you had it on the cards you sent me, I would have been able to refer to them. I believe you asked me information on the Spanish Civil War and my opinion of its outcome. Of course, you know how I hope it will turn out. The best inform-ation I can give you according to what I have been able to find out is as follows, most of the newspapers in this country give the rebels (fascists) the best reports, also the news about it is scattered and confused, and depends on where the reporters over there happen to be and who they favor. According to the most expert analysis that I have read, the advances of the rebels depend in large measure to the arms and supplies given them by the fascist countries, Italy and Germany. I think it is very likely true that if the rebels don’t win within three weeks, they never will because their money will run out some time and their soldiers will become discouraged if it drags on much longer without much success. That is the best opinion I am able to get. So I hope that answers your question altho it is not as definite as you may have expected. Let me hear from you again Charlie | |
