Sept 29, 1936 Cleveland O. Dearest Hubby: Darling it is just three months today since the last time I saw you. It seems like 3 years, doesn’t it honey. Anyhow, how are you? O.K? I called your father up Sunday nite and he hasn’t painted his house yet. Maybe he is waiting till you come home so he can get you to look for the brush. Honey, do you think your battery needs another charge again. Your horn sounds good to me, but just wondered if you wanted Charlie to come over and have him charge it. Last Saturday I went to Parma Tavern with mother and dad and I won the door prize. It is a salad bowl and spoon, and when they called off my name their couldn’t say it so I had to tell them over the mike. Do you remember a little gold watch your mother had. You know one of those that women use to pin on their blouses. Wirt gave me a darling little gold watch and said it had belonged to your mother and he knew that you would want me to have it. He also show me a picture he had made of Grace. It is a wonderful likeness only the artist put too much hair on her forehead. He is going to have one made for us, He is going to paper Sedalia house and he’s got the lower suite on Bunts already rented and without advertising. The mail man told somebody about it. And keep this under your hat. He wants to sell Sedalia house, and move into an apartment or hotel or maybe even get married, who knows. Miss Ropell has been over there twice last week and spent the nite And he takes her every place. They went to Mt. Vernon and Columbus. He claims to me that he doesn’t care for her and that he is worried cause she is so crazy about him. Darling just think you won’t know if you are coming home to a homely or a fairly good looking wife. Maybe you’ll take one look and cry for a boat. Amos and Andy are back in at 7. And Amos is going to be a papa soon, only on the radio. Darling how I wish you were here so we could go to bed and I could put my rear end in your lap and feel your big arm around my waist. But you’ll make it up to me this winter won’t you , honey. Gee I hope when you get home, you can find a job so you need never leave me, but maybe if you see so much of me you’ll get tired of me. Do you think we will always be happy and live to see our 50th wedding anniversary? Honey, I often wonder If you will act like Wirt and your father after I die. Well, I guess it won’t hurt me then cause I won’t be here to see your caring on. But in the meantime let us make the most of every thing in the little while we have left, believe me I adore and love you now and always will no matter what happens. Loads and Love and Kisses your loving wife Ethel | |
