P.S. You had better burn these up, Sept. 13, 1936 Cleveland O. Dearest Hubby of Mine: Boy you’ll have so many letters at Detroit, you’ll be ashamed and will have to take time off to read them. I wasn’t going to write until you were on to Buffalo, but have a few things to tell you. Honey won’t you please give up communism for me sake? If you don’t, please remember this “We, you and I, will be happy and married only five years, may be less, cause it is going to separate us.” Maybe you’re thinking I’m crazy, but I have a hunch and if you can’t see my side, there is coming a time when you will have to choose. I know what I’m talking about, and doesn’t it mean any thing to you for me to have peace of mind and us to be happy? You remember that old gas station you used to have? It is all painted and fixed up and I think they sell G[?]f. And Kronenberg’s has got that Chevrolet sedan up for sale in front of his station on 14th St. I went over to Charlie’s and Mattie’s. Mattie has been sick and has gone ot the clinic and they told her she has heart trouble and is in the change of life, and Charlie was telling me about being down to the E[?] and seeing all the naked women, and getting so excited he forgot about communism. But they both are for Roosevelt. Darling please answer this question. Are you crazy about going to see naked women? Well Mattie is pretty disgusted with Charlie and I think he’ll be living over with the old man soon. Mattie says he doesn’t take her any place and her people tell her its terrible the way she is living with him and they want her to sell, and come to Chicago that she could do better up there. Charlie pays her $7 a week for room and board and she pays #25 a month for that place. So she says if she doesn’t go to Chicago there is going to be a change soon. Please don’t say anything to Charlie or her. And there is trouble brewing up at Tim’s every since Betty came home. You know Fred has no use for Better and she and Catherine are out every nite drinking and if Catherine doesn’t cut it out Fred is going to leave her. They had a terrible fight and Fred threatened to leave and Time and Rose are looking for a place to move. Darling do you think you could get off for a trip. I do wish you could. I’m beginning to feel like an old maid or a deserted wife. Went to the show tonite with Mother and Dad. Some f[?], eh kid? But honey, I love you just oodles and oodles and when you get home Ill wear you out completely, and don’t think for instance that I don’t want to see you that I don’t miss you, cause I do and it hurts like hell. Well now I’m going to bed and think I’ve done my duty as this will make 3 letters and the funnies for you at Detroit, and that is a lot better than you do, and besides I'm always writing how much I love you and miss you and you never do. But if you are being true blue to me I won’t mind, but some nites I lay in bed wondering if you are flirting or going places and doing things. Anyhow you have an adoring wife waiting for you at home. Loads of Love and kisses Ethel P.S. Saw Dr. Paul the other nite I don’t think he knew me | |
