Dear Old Son-
Wrote Sally a long letter yesterday. The picture she sent us, posed at her desk as a secretary, is now framed and hanging in the "Mens Dormitory" at our house. A danged good looking secretary, too.
Shirley and I went to Toledo yesterday and she picked out a new suit of clothes for me - it is a Blue and Shirley thinks it is just right for me, but it might be a bit "loud". I get it Saturday on mom birthday and I shall put it right on, by way of celebrating her natal day, even tho she is way down in the heart of Texas. Also bought a couple of loud [underlined] ties - the first I have bought since you left. And it is the first new suit I have bought since you were a sophomore at Wooster.
Otterbein beat Wooster last night - I will enclose the clipping. Tonight the High school will play Fremont and they should take us.
Been snowing again here - yesterday, on the way to Toledo, it was a blowing blizzard with drifts on the Dixie so we couldn't drive over 20 or 25 miles per hour. Lord, what a winter we are having. With the exception of 4 days of rain between Xmas and New Years when all the snow went off and caused untold flood damage, we have had from 4 to 12 inches of snow since the 28th of November [underlined]. Think of that, 44 days of snow on the ground and still cold.
Old Uncle Bill Donahey just wears a smile all the time - The Rat!
Just got back from lunch and during the noon hour I had a plasterer come down and look at one kitchen. It has been a h- of a mess for a long time and something just had to be done. To replaster the kitchen, the breakfast room the back stairway and the back Hall up stairs will cost $125.00. Darned near knocked me over but it sure will be a birthday to mom, to come back to a new kitchen - so I said "fix it up". I'll pay $75.00 when the job is done and 25.00 a month - guess I can swing it - and he promises to finish it next week before mom gets back. Course I dont know yet when she will be back, she hasn't said a word, and we have told her to stay till Mary is on her feet and well. So that's that. We will have to pray for lots of business, old Pal. Dont [underlined] tell [underlined] mom [underlined].

Just had a long letter fro mom and Mary is so much better and they are about to embark on a social season as near as I can make out - so many invitations out, that they cant begin to find time to accept all of them. Also had a card from Mary telling what a wonderful nurse mom is and what a lucky girl she was to marry into our family. Shucks! We could have told her that, long ago, eh?

Oh! Say before I forget - Carl Young Jr rec'd your V [unsure leg] letter and is he only the proud kid. And his folks thought it was mighty fine of you to write him. As busy as you are, I want to thank you, too, Sonny Boy - you sure have done a swell job of writing letters and everybody [underlined] remark what a wonderful letter you write. The only other letter I want you to write, is to Tommy Mercer, the poor kid, at 926 E. Wooster St.
Shirley just phoned that we got a long letter from Sally this morning, didn't have her read it to me but she thought it was dandy.
Shirley + I were out to Bowmans for dinner last night - Big pickered, scalloped potatoes, cabbage slaw etc., an for dessert fresh Red Raspberry short cake, from [illegible] Ice box up town.
Well the High school lost a thrilling batle to Fremont 27-20. At one time the score was 19-20. After the game, someone remarked - "if we only had a couple of tall Dick Gernerts in there what we wouldn't do to the other schools". Oh! Well, you are in the Big Game and I know you will play it as hard as ever you did for the Local school and Old Wooster.
Guess Shirley + I will phone mom tonite to wish her a happy birthday - 3 minutes worth.
Must close now, Pops boy, hope you are still in the same place but wherever you are, do your stuff in the Gernert way and never [underlined] forget your prayers - you and Sally will be back with us some of these days - then wont we "talk"? Best of Luck to you buddy boy and
