Dear Pal-
Have your letter written 4 Jan. and first thing, Sonny boy, dont send me any money to finance mom. Bill sent a check for $50.00 [unsure sp] for a round trip tricket and I gave her 25.00 [unsure sp] for incidentals. Since then I have sent her 3 5 dollar bills, one from you, one from Shirley and one from me, all for her birthday, so she is well fixed unless Bill, the Lug, gets into her purse. So you got the money belt and the nickel? Got a nice letter from Sally - she is secretary to the Registrar, staying at Hales [unsure sp], in Pudge's rom, for 25.00 [unsure sp] per month. More than fair of Mose + Bee, isnt it?
Monday when your letter came, one came for Shirley + one for mom. I forwarded mom's to her "down south in Texas".
Yes I read admiral Halseys prediction and more power to him. If we had more Halsey's and less Jewish politicians and leech's in Washington, we would get some where. Dont forget the stories about him - wouldn't pass the censor, eh?
Uncle [unsure leg[ initials are L. D. Mercer - (Lorenzo Dow Mercer) and some day write a letter to Tommy - he has been back in the Hospital twice in the last 2 months, is there now. More stones in the Urethra etc. Too darned bad for the poor kid.
Mrs Harringon phoned Shirley that Bill C. had written her that Bill, you and another fellow had been invited out to some Pineapple Magnates house for dinner or something. What about it? Who was it or can't you say?
Have you seen [cut-off by hole punch] "Little Jonesy", the boy who gave ou the manicure set before you left San Diego?
I took Shirley and 4 of her pals over to Tiffin last night to the game - we lost. It was a bad night to travel but Shirley appreciated [added with carrot "it"] so much. She sure is a swell little gal, Richard. Our house is being kept neat as a pin. She wont talk much but last Saturday she did admit she was pretty homesick for mom.
I sat with Ted Tourney [unsure sp], coach at Heidleberg, he asked all about you. He says BGU was foolish to pull out of the conference.
Sally, in her letter, said Coach Boles was sick in bed with a very bad cold, so I dropped him a card and said I had read in the "Canton Suppository [underlined] about his being bed fast and I suggested that a good enema was good for his condition. Have you written the old boy recently?
It was 10 above zero here this a.m., and now it is blowing and snowing. The hardest winter in 71 (or 171) years, so they say. Isn't mom Lucky to be down south? Gosh! I'm glad for her. I wrote old Curley and told him to buy her some Roses for her birthday [covered by ink blot "and"] charge them to me - "from Pop + the children".
I am going to mail this letter now - hope you get it before you send any money. Be clean + good, Pops bo. Take care of yourself - your health. Write when you can and tell me all you can - but nothing that would be bad for you if censored.
[bottom right of page] I love you Sonny boy
