Dear Son-
This is the day after Thanksgiving and we still have our 11 pound Turkey in the ice box cause Sally hasn't some - however, we got a telegram today to meet her at Deshler tomorrow (Saturday) at 3:52 P.M., needless to say, old Pop and family will be there to meet her. We probably wont have the Turkey till Sunday - guess we will have steaks Saturday for her first meal with us because she wrote from San Diego before she left that she was anxious for one of my good steaks.
Also I have a job lined up for her teaching English at Richwood Ohio, down near Delaware, if she wants it - The English teacher at that place leaves December 5th to join the WAACS and guess who she is? It is Mary Martin, a sister of Craig Martin who was with Bill down at Salem New Jersey, The first year Bill was a chemist for the [unsure leg]. Craig and his sister (Mary) stopped in the office today on their way to Toledo to visit friends and they, especially Craig, wanted to know all about Bill + you and your wives. This "Craig" is studying for the Priesthood in Latrobe, Penn., and he was always crazy about Bill - Do you Remember him?
We stayed home all Thanksgiving day hoping to hear from Sally. Bill Rothes came over and spent an hour in the afternoon. Says he has had two
[unsure break]
letters from you recently and that he wrote you at San Diego.
Paul Landis [unsure sp] + wife are in town and the came over Wednesday night to spend the evening - then in came the Woughs [unsure sp] - the Bowmans - the Youngs with Mrs Youngs two sisters - we had quite a party till 2:30 a.m. Paul and Evelyn brought a [unsure leg] box - a wedding present for you + Sally. It is a big silver Tray, they said. They have had it since July but never were sure of your address - so Sally will have a wedding present to open when she gets here. Also mom is up town right now [caret adding "to"] buy a birthday present for Sally and I will send her a dozen roses from her Hawaiian Husband - Oh! We will take care of her Sonny Boy.
Poor old Paul Laudis [unsure sp] got to talking to me about you, out in our kitchen, and he just broke down and the tears rolled down his cheeks. He said "I dont give a damn, Dick is one of the [unsure leg] damn boys I ever knew and I dont care what any body thinks". I blubbered a bit too so we had a good time. There is something about you that men [underlined] like, so you have something to live up to - dont let your men [underlined] friends down. Do your stuff out there - be on your toes - alert and willing. Give 100% all the time whether anyone is looking or not. Boy, I am proud of you son - go clean up those brown bastards and come home - I'll be praying and waiting for you.

Shirley wrote you a letter the other day - I didn't read it, but she sometimes writes pretty sensible letters. A Great Gal!
Can you tell me what your duties are? Do you drill men? Are your duties all of a Defense [underlined] nature? Are you still on the 90 m.m. guns? I just get to wondering what time you get up - what time you report for duty. Where do you sleep and where do you eat? How is the food? How much does it cost? Is your salary increased because of duty away from our shores?
Dick, Have you got your little Bible with you? Darn, I can hardly wait for Sally to come - I probably wont sleep much tonight, thinking about her coming - you know me. Hope she can stay till xmas, but I know her folks will want her to hurry home. You should see her wedding picture, in a beautiful frame, on our piano - it's beautiful.
[centered] -Saturday- P.M. [end centered]
Hell Sally was to come today but she phoned from Chicago last night that she would arrive at Deshler tomorrow (Sunday) at 3:52. The family will meet her.
Mom got her some awful expensive perfume - Shirley got her a beautiful handkerchief and I have ordered 1 dozen big red Roses from "Dick". How is that for service. I'll close this letter and mail it air mail so you will get it sooner. Be Pops good boy cause I love you
