Description | Melon-sellers on the Nile. These melon merchants do a thriving trade in their green-rinded red-fleshed fruit of the finest flavour, for Egypt was famous as a land of fresh vegetables of old, and is so still. The children of Israel wept to remember "we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers and the melons." (Numbers xi. 4, 5) |
