1911 M. Ave.., Sioux City, Iowa November 28, 1918 Miss Grace K. McClurg. Dear Friend: Your card come to me some time ago, I enjoyed it very much. Attended to thank you several times for your kindness. But something was happened. Today, the thanksgiving day, I have no school, you know. Of course, I am busy all the time but even that I think I must write you two or three of words anyhow. My schoolwork is going on all right; and my brother too. Of course, we study hard, when we study one lesson, we must hunt the new words in dictionary, general two words for every sentence. Therefore, at least spent four or five hours for preparation of each lesson. I take 12 hours for each week of this term. My brother only nine hours, but he studied Geometry in Academy 5 hours a week. So altogether he has 14 hours for a week. First time he lived in Mrs. Carson's house, but now he stays with college president, Mossman, the man who has been a president of Southwestern College you know. I think he will learn lots of knowledge and American home style; don't you think isn't he fortune? We went to Sunday school every week our teacher is Miss Loveland. She is the one of college professor. She can teaching very well, and we interested it very much. I hope I can teach Chinese student use her method when I return to China. In our school, here, has a Foochow’s girl. She came near a year before I. Of course she can speech and study American books better than we do; and she is nice girl too because she help us something anyway. Have not you received any letter from home, China, in recent? I had been headicke for it, because about 2 months my mother gave me no notice at all. I saw a Chinese news paper a week before last. At one place record that Hinghwa City has been attacked by the South Army from Sept. 13 to 24. Of course, they murder and burn the house. But I am glad that my mother was not in the city at that period. (My friend told that). But I still worry for her because she did not write me a letter. But I trust upon God, anything will be good for her I know. Mr. Carson just got here, Sioux City, this morning. I am glad but I do not know how glad I am, but I do know I am glad to see him anyhow. We went down at dinner with Mrs. Carson today. The table was decorated very nice. I am enjoyed it. But cannot tell you with a comparation to tell you how nice it was. I think I will closed my letter now. But I hope you will write me often. Yours truly, Yu Ling Liu |
