Evanston, Ill., Jan. 29, ’09. Dear Mamma and All: This delightfully stormy p.m. I have just a few minutes to write, but as there is little to right, I guess there will be time. We are having a regular Blizzard. It has been warm all day, raining all morning, but now it is much colder, and the wind is fierce. Took a long walk this noon - about an hour. Part of the way I had to go thru I got a girl to walk with me along the lake. Wish you could see it in its fury. I do so enjoy a snow storm. Sunday afternoon, I am going in to lead League at St. Andrews, close to C.T.S. We'll get to visit there a while. Will have my carfare paid. The call came to Garrit for a leader, but they were short and so send me. It all began in a joke, but I was glad to go, both for the cause and for seeing the girls. Addressed my envelopes in 5 hrs. This time. The rest of the work will require 4 or 5 hours. $3.00 For the job. I took the afternoon off today to make up a “gym” credit, but as the “gym” director was sick, I have had the time in the library studying. Schoolwork has been late this week. “Exs” Begin next week. It will be a busy time. Am going into this city Sat. next to stay until Mon. with Mrs. Foster, Edith’s friend. She sent me a special, as she is going to have a party of some kind Sat. night – “Young ladies, other friends.” Wish Edith could be there. Have been so lonely for her a couple of days this week. Have lots of friends here now, and many whom I like very much, but there is no Edith among them yet. The band girls meet at Mrs. Horben’s tonight at five, and it is time to go. This is my day to cook. I'm going to have fresh fish for supper, the kind that one slice makes us a meal. It is not expensive, and we have been economical enough for it. Living has cost us about $1.10 per for everything since Xmas. Edith Alford says, “Give him my love.” She is a fine friend who is sitting across the table from me, we'll write more next time, hastily, but with lots of love. Grace. |
