Letter from Christiana Hutchinson to Enos B. Mix, July 21, 1858

July 21, 1858

Dear brother, I again sit down to write a few lines to see if I can get an answer from you. Not having heard from you for more than a year. I received one letter from you a long time after I wrote the first one and then I wrote another but never received any answer. We are all well at this time and have been ever since I wrote to you last. I was at Paps last Sunday week. They were all in good health. Pap tends his farm by himself this summer with the exception of one field that Perry Hargod has rented. We got a letter from Susan Mix about two weeks ago. They are still at Manual Albaughs in Morrow County. She wrote that they had got a letter from Solomon the 18th of June and that he intended to start for home the 5th of July and if he started at that time he will be here the first of August if nothing happens to him and then they intend to go back to Illinois. I got a letter from Clarinda and one from Sarah and used up all my ink answering them but I will have more before I write to you again unless you are faster about writing than you generally are.

They were all well when they wrote. Lydia has a daughter two or three months old. I believe I wrote to you that she was married a year ago last. Had to. Henry (illegible) is married a devil as ever heard (illegible) parties. Lydia still lives out here as they had not (illegible) to house keeping. Charles's folks are interested to come in here this summer and visit but gave it up on account of the hard times to get mostly John Cramer in does very well out there. I believe Sarah (illegible) has a daughter (illegible) they call her Ida. I know that I wrote to you that Sarah (illegible) a year ago last (illegible) and we have had a wedding here today Lueinda was married the 20th of June. James Meeune he lives three miles south of here in Logan county and he is twenty three years old and a first rate kind of man. All has sold his farm since they were married and intends to start the first of October for the west. He don't know what part yet. Lucinda is still staying here and will most of the time until they start west. I did not intend to write so much when I commenced but I am not quite through yet there has been more rain here this spring and summer. I expect than there has since that wet season we read of in the bible.

We had beautiful warm dry weather in March and April but from the last of April to the middle of June it rained all the time day and night nearly. There has not been much corn planted on account of the wet but what there is looks well though small for this time of the season. Harvesting is mostly done here with the exception of some late spring wheat, grain is generally good . the weevil has injured very late wheat some and the rest has hurt some but not to any extent. We intend to go see you this fall if things are not to hard and we expect you to come see us too. I believe I have wrote all that is necessary and maybe more but pap has just come here since I was writing with a letter he just got from Charles. He says they were all well when (illegible). Charles writes that he sent a letter to you but never got an answer.

And now I must quit. do write soon if you are alive and if you are dead get some body to write for you. No more at this time. Yours affectionally
