Dear President Jerome:

To put this briefly and sincerely, our department generally feels:

1) that your management of the recent crisis has been nothing short of magnificent--we are genuinely pleased and wish you were staying on.

2) that you have our firm support in your resolution to keep the university open and not to leave this decision to any clown with a brick.

Judging by Fernand Auberjonois' recent Blade article on the University at Nanterre, there is nothing sadder than a student body working for a degree it knows will be as useful as a prison record. Bowling Green is not Kent, not to rejoice in another's misfortune; but we do have a good name, a name which will be a help, not a hindrance, to our graduates. Let's hold on to it, both for those who want it and those who have not yet learned to want it.
