Cairo Tombs of the Khalifs, Cairo. Khalifs never built or occupied these tombs east of the city. They were raised by Mameluke rulers and here sleep those Circassian Mamelukes who held sway 1382-1517. The most conspicuous and beautiful of these monuments are there dome and minaret of Kait Bey.
