Description | Video oral history interview with Archie Smith, staff sergeant for the U.S. Army's 778th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion in the European theater during World War II. Included are his stories of service in Verdun in France and the North African country of Sudan, and in the Battle of the Bulge operating a maintenance truck running parts and supplies along the Western Front and repairing half-track vehicles, GMC trucks, and Jeeps for his battalions. Recorded April 22, 2001 for Dr. Kathren Brown's World War II history course in the Department of History at Bowling Green State University. Interview conducted by Craig Smith. Closed captions are included, as is a copy of Smith's honorable discharge from the Army. |
