Description | Adequate facilities and department consolidation are crucial ingredients to any academic department seeking to reach its ultimate potential. By the mid-1990s, the Departments of English and American Culture Studies lacked both of these elements. English and ACS were similarly scattered throughout the buildings on-campus. Moreover, some of the buildings housing these departments, specifically South Hall, were in poor shape and in need of major repair. Thus, university administrators approved plans in 1996 for construction of a new building to be named East Hall that would house both the Departments of English and American Culture Studies. Listed below are additional highlights in the history of the building:
