History 303 World War II oral histories
This digital collection provides access to the entirety of the History 303 World War II interviews (MS-0871), a collection of oral histories about World War II conducted by BGSU students in the early 2000s for the History 303 (World War II) course taught by professors Walter Grunden and Kathren Brown.
As part of the required work for the History 303 course, students conducted oral interviews with individuals, mostly Ohioans, with direct experience of World War II. Most interviews are with military veterans and touch upon their training, battle experience, attitudes, and post-war adjustment, though there are some interviews that detail the experience on the U.S. homefront. Some interviewees also allowed copies to be made of photographs and other documents.
Typed transcripts are included for all audio interviews, while closed captions are included for all video interviews. Select Browse Items to access all interviews in this digital collection, or enter specific terms in the collection search box to search for interviews on particular subjects.
The History 303 World War II interviews can also be accessed in our corresponding digital exhibit, "Experiencing War: A Project to Preserve and Make Accessible Oral Histories of World War II."
This digital collection is made possible in part by a grant from the Ohio History Connection’s History Fund.
