Description | Troops from Company H, 2nd Infantry, Ohio National Guard, during rifle training at Camp Sheridan, Montgomery, Alabama. This photograph belonged to serviceman Earnest W. Carter of Hull Prairie, Ohio, who wrote the following description on the back of the photograph: "On the 100 yd. firing line at the Rifle Range. A few of the hat targets can be seen on the left of the picture. These targets are up one minute only at time of firing; during that time we are supposed to make 15 shots. Each man shoots at the target his number is assigned to. The targets are raised and lowered by tenders in the pit at telephone signals from the firing line." Once formally drafted into federal service, Company H was reorganized as Company F of the 146th Infantry, 37th Infantry Division, American Expeditionary Forces. |
